The day I took a boat to work. I did wake up in a sweat thinking that they intended to send me across the croc-infested channel in a dugout fishing canoe, but I was saved by Mweya Lodge's luxury cruiser

Here's where we were going- one of the primary schools in Kazinga fishing village, inside the national park. You can see they have 2 classroom blocks, but one had the roof blow off! Still, not a bad spot for lots of recess, yeah?
-

Who needs a roof to go to school? Well, rainy season is tricky...but these kids were still all smiles. Probably because all of their parents travel to the school at mid-day to bring them their lunch. No brown-baggin' it around here!

"Baby Class"- the kids too young for school but too old to be wasted by idleness in the village. Very precious little people.

Mweya Safari Lodge, one of the highest luxury lodges around, and the only one inside Queen Elizabeth National Park, is doing a Corporate Responsibility Project by charging each guest $1 per stay to go toward this primary school in Kazinga fishing village, near to the lodge. Hopefully, within 6 months, we will have raised enough to build an extra school block, replace the roof on the other block, bring fresh water to the school (drinking and handwashing), and input wildlife/conservation education into the school curriculum. I’m just helping facilitate the project by easing communication between the lodge and the community– they’re all doing an incredible job so far!
