I love getting letters from the community. Sometimes people are just trying their luck (can you pay my school fees? Can you sponsor me to get an American visa? Will you please attend my (a stranger) father’s cousin’s first-born’s baptism party?). Sometimes they are writing under the clouds of a vast misunderstanding of my personal abilities (can you please redesign the town’s piped water and drainage system?). But sometimes, like TODAY, I just get friendly letters of….friendliness. My beekeeping/microsavings group in Kataara invited me to their “sharing out” party for the end of the savings cycle.
But what really got me, and why I really love letters from the community, was the first line:
“Let me first take this opportunity of thanking God for this momentous epoch.”
That’s right. 2009 – 2012 will be, in Kataara, the Hayley Epoch. I’d say my ego is doing okay!
