What if your room is sea foam green?

One day, approximately a year and a half ago, after a lonely weekend and in the 4th or 5th hour of rain-induced weekday house arrest, and under the influence of a crippling paranoia that I may never experience social kinship or intellectual stimulation ever again….I decorated my house.  By which I mean I hung various quotations on index cards with twine around my kitchen.  I use the word “decorate” in its loosest sense, given that nothing can really liven up a goopy, dripping sea foam green wall.  Anyway, I had already made sophisticated paper models of my future hanging spice rack and colored all over my drinking water cans with silver Sharpie so….I ask you, was there really anything else left to do?

Well, what started as a lazy day craft and felt like a goofy cliché has actually been fun and rewarding.  Some of the quotations make me laugh, or feel inspired, or challenged, or just comfort me.  They also entertain my guests which is great, because SOMEone’s got to do it.  The one I keep coming back to recently is from Dr. Seuss:

“You can get help from teachers, but you are going to have to learn a lot by yourself, sitting alone in a room.”

How true!  And I do a lot of sitting alone in a room…I’m gonna be brilliant!
